  2. My friends in Panama City Beach (who promote tourism there) gave me huge props. With Las Vegas stealing all the male crowd who wanted to bet the games and pretend they know how to play poker, Panama City Beach had a pretty even male-to-female ratio for the first time in a LONG time, LOL.

    Sky Lounge continues to be awesome … as in the view … and the elbow room. They stay in business just like many other bars in Las Vegas stay in business: They have video poker and are close to their clients. Between a handful of regulars and guests at the Polo towers, I’m sure they bring in enough to justify the space.

    Having said that … it continues to be a top “Best Kept Secret” on The Strip. To get there, you almost feel like you are doing “something wrong” (even though they welcome you). You have to walk way back between the buildings behind Hawaiian Marketplace or walk down Harmon past Harley Cafe. Tim is on the money.

    Gotta love the Frontier (New Frontier …. whatever … WTF was with the name change … either leave it the same or call it something else). A couple of years ago, I was headed to that area in the daytime, parked behind the place, and walked in … cutting through the pool area.

    I could almost hear the VEGA$ (TV show) theme in my head and felt like I was truly stepping back into the pre-Mirage era of Las Vegas. (I arrived in Las Vegas in 1993 at the age of 27 so I only know of that era from TV). I encourage everyone to take a walk through the place … maybe even play a few of the old school machines (where you have to really put the quarters in … got a kick out of that). Old school Vegas is going bye-bye … check out what is left of it.

    Oh … Harrahs 1, Tim 0. Co’mon … you rip on them since the dawn of podcasting … but a good run on the machines got you to a solid comp level and now we are going to hear how great the perks are.

    PLEASE … NO … give us back the old Tim who tells it like it is! (End of Editorial).

  3. Hi, just got back from my own week in Vegas. Three observations:

    1–Stayed at the Flamingo and took several trips through the habitat area. I am SURE the penguins are there.

    2–Visual confirmation of 3$ blackjack at the Golden Gate on a weekday afternoon.

    3–Avoid the coffee shop at Hooters(called The Dam, as in Hoover). Young dudes in baseball caps, older dudes with prodigious beer bellies and an aesthetically-challenged waitstaff.

  4. how do you know that the leprechaun wasn’t faking the east coast accent in order to fool you so that you wouldn’t go after his pot o’ gold? huh? huh? answer that one!

  5. Note to Michelle: no fair chiding Tim for using the phrase “better bet” now that you’re on record as describing your trip as “awesomely awesome”.
    Unless “awesomely awesome” was your way of showing Tim how silly “better bet” sounds… in which case you’re a genius.

    Tim, we love you (in a non-gay way … we’ll leave that to Steve and Miles) and love the show. Las Vegas is the ultimate love/hate relationship … take Harrahs for all they are worth now!

  8. Michele bet on Florida in the NCAA, didn’t she? Maybe you two could use that to help justify an early return to Las Vegas, to pick up her winnings.

  9. I ate my 40th birthday dinner at Mix last year; food to die for! Your review of the lounge (and it’s bathrooms) is spot on. And a tip for East Coasters who enjoy New Belgium Brewery’s Fat Tire Ale, they serve it there. Yum!

  12. The hotel suite pictures from October were taken at Barbary Coast. I’m guessing they have since renovated the suites because all of their standard rooms have been updated in the past couple months.
