Tim I know exactly what you mean by not being bowled over by the Strip these days. I thought I was the only one (led to believe that if you listen to the Vegas media) but now there’s at least two of us. It is hard to explain… all I can say is the new non-themed hotels (like City Center) have replaced the historical aspect of The Strip and the memories associated with the gone-but-not-forgotten properties. The properties don’t stand out like they used to. There doesn’t seem to be the same attention paid toward luring the gambler inside. The hotels have a sameness about them; they are all bent on promoting their shopping and food establishments. I just can’t get excited about those things like I can about 3-2 blackjack at a $5 table or 98% slots.
It seems the approach in Vegas has become ordering a $18 hamburger, having a $20 cocktail at a fancy bar (unless you’re playing full coin, bad paytable VP) and heading out in the evening for a $250 bottle of booze.
I dont know anyone who wants to do these things. However, I do know about 20 friends who will gladly go to Vegas and in an inebriated state, risk their hard earned cash $5 or $10 at a time on games where the house has an edge.
Seems like if there were more of the latter, they’d make more money than the former
Eh, what do i know?
