A few days ago, we began hearing that Speed: The Ride was finally being disassembled at the shuttered Sahara. According to a blog entry from the company doing the removal work, the roller coaster is headed for the Akita Plaza strip mall located across Las Vegas Boulevard from Mandalay Bay (not far from the alleged future home of the Skyvue ferris wheel).
A little more digging revealed additional details along with artist renderings.
Thanks to listener Allen for the tip.
Tim,
One glaring hole in your reporting is the inclusion of such fine establishments as McDonalds, Panda Express, Subway, and of course Liquor Expo. Sign me up for the newest destination on the strip…ME LIKEY!
they might as well put in a Walgreens while the’re at it.
That is good news, I never got to ride that. I did the old high roller befor it was removed. So now I have a good reasone to go back. Like I need one
Good point, TC. It’s a solid destination even without the coaster.
That’s just an odd location for a roller coaster.
I’m wondering….Will this site be anchored by a 10-ft-deep reinforced concrete mat foundation like Skyvue?
